ISLAMABAD, Jun 6 (APP): Islamic countries continued to issue stern statements on Monday to condemn and denounce remarks of the officials of Indian ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Pakistan and a number of other Islamic countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia condemned and criticized the despicable comments of BJP officials.

Pakistan joined three other countries; Kuwait, Qatar and Iran in summoning the Indian envoys to express anger at the blasphemy.

The Foreign Ministry of Bahrain stressed the need to denounce any reprehensible insults against Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), being a provocation to Muslims’ feelings and incitement to religious hatred.

General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned and denounced the recent denigration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by an official of India’s ruling party.

“These cases of defamation are part of a growing spate of hatred and defamation of Islam in India and systematic practices against Indian Muslims,” the OIC General Secretariat said in a statement.

The OIC called on the Indian authorities to decisively address these incidents of defamation and all forms of insult to the noble Prophet and Islam and to bring those who incite and perpetrate violence against Muslims to justice and hold those behind them accountable.

The United Arab Emirates also condemned statements by the spokesperson for the Indian Bharatiya Janata Party and expressed its denunciation and rejection of insults of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) of UAE affirmed the UAE’s firm rejection of all practices and behaviors that contradict moral and human values and principles.

The Ministry underscored the need to respect religious symbols and not violate them, as well as confront hate speech and violence.

Indonesia also strongly condemned unacceptable derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad PBUH by two Indian politicians. This message had been conveyed to Indian Ambassador in Jakarta.

On Sunday, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran summoned Indian ambassadors to their countries to register their protest against the derogatory comments on Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) made by BJP officials Sharma and Jindal last week.

Qatar and Kuwait had demanded a public apology for the statements.

Saudi Arabia, one of the most significant voices in the Arab world, also issued a statement late Sunday evening.

Its ministry of foreign affairs expressed its condemnation and denunciation of the statements made by the spokeswoman of the BJP.

The kingdom was also joined by the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan government, which said in a statement that the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemns the use of derogatory words against the Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him) by an official of the ruling party in India,” and urged “the Indian government not to allow such fanatics to insult the holy religion of Islam and provoke the feelings of Muslims.”
